Countdown

SISWASAT COMPETITION DAY

17 SEPTEMBER 2019

Background

A CanSat is a simulation of a real satellite, integrated within the volume and shape of a soft drink can, typically weighing around 350g. CanSat provides excellent first-step training opportunities for students interested in satellite development, operation and project management. All basic functions of a satellite, such as those of power and communications, are fitted into a soda can of 350 ml or a little more. It could perform various experiments such as attitude control, image capture and downlink as well as GPS measurement. The time required for students to experience the entire project is from 5 to 8 months for mission conceptualization, design, fabrication, ground test, modification, launch and operation, much shorter than most of space-related projects, and the life-cycle cost for the project is also limited.

About the competition
The mission of this competition is fly-back whereby the CanSat must reach a specified target point without human intervention after the release from a drone at a high altitude using a control mechanism such as parafoil. The full competition criteria and guidelines are expected to be released during introductory workshop.

This competition is open for higher education institute. Only one team consists of five (5) undergraduate students and one advisor from each institution are allowed.
